An Escaped, Suppressed Feeling

As a small suppressed feeling squeezes out through the crack,

It takes a moment to breathe and then summons the pack.

She tries to control it, but they sneak past the gate,

Their moment is now not a second to wait.

With defences diminished for just a tiny, short while,

Emotion replaces her standard fixed smile.

It starts as a trickle, descends as a torrent,

They flow free, united, their disobedience abhorrent.

She reigns back the intrusion, digs deep for some strength,

A chink barely noticed, just a moment in length.

With a balance restored, that allows her to be,

She operates, functions and ignores the real she.

Escape can derail, so suppression’s embraced,

Unprocessed feelings that just can’t be faced.

They may have slipped through the crack but now forced back to the deep,

Shackled resilience grips tighter so that there they will keep.

But once in a while if mental levels are low,

They may bubble over, requiring somewhere to go.

Perhaps in a week, or perhaps half a year,

It will sneak back to the surface and slip out on a tear.
